The White Plains City’s School District’s Preliminary Budget for the 2026-27 school year was presented at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, March 9, 2026. The draft budget includes a 1.60% increase in the tax levy, which is compliant with the state tax cap. Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricca and Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations Dr. Ann Vaccaro-Teich provided the community with information on the spending plan, which will be voted on for adoption by the Board on April 13.

The White Plains City School District wishes the best of luck to two White Plains High School athletes who are competing in the NYSPHSAA Championships next week! Kellen Doherty, a ninth-grade student, will compete in the Skiing State Championships on Monday, February 23 and Tuesday, February 24 at Bristol Mountain. Genesis Garcia, an 11th grader, will compete in the Girls Wrestling Championships on Thursday, February 26 in Albany. Congratulations on reaching this point, and good luck Kellen and Genesis! #WPProud🐯

Chuck Stogel at WPHS Hall of Fame event

Charles “Chuck” Stogel, a veteran sportswriter and editor, and longtime president of the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association, has been chosen for induction into the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame. 

The induction ceremonies for the NYC Hoops Hall Class of 2025, which includes seven other distinguished individuals plus one professional and one college basketball team, is scheduled for Tuesday evening, Feb. 24, 2026, at the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel in Manhattan (hoopshallny.org).

Genesis Garcia, an eleventh-grade student at White Plains High School, competed in the Section 1 Girls Wrestling Championships over the weekend and won her weight class! Congratulations to the new Section 1 Champion! Genesis will represent WPHS and compete for the state championship at the NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championships on Thursday, February 26, in Albany.
